About the Effective BI Dashboarding Series
Using airline on-time arrival performance data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics data, Zeevo Group analyzed a time-limited data set for illustrative purposes. The Effective BI Dashboarding series emphasizes five areas of importance that comprise an effective dashboard, namely grouping visuals, visual types, effective metrics, consistent measures, and use of colors.
Airlines’ on-time arrival statistics are a calculation based upon an airline’s estimation of flight time. Some aviation industry professionals suspect that the airline’s flight duration estimations have been overestimated, which would reflect a more favorable on-time arrival statistic. From our analysis, we determined a favorable on-time arrival statistic does not necessarily indicate the fastest carrier per route since the on-time arrival statistic is based upon a carrier’s estimation of flight duration.
